PVC sphere

This is a gallery - illustrating a triaxial woven sphere.
Click on the thumbnails on the left to show expanded versions of them here.

Some statistics:

  • The sphere is modelled on the geometry of a football.
  • It was made of 30 3m lengths of 20mm PVC conduit - connected into ten circular sections.
  • The sphere has no hubs - only conduit-to-conduit connectors.
  • The sphere took one hour and forty minutes to construct - and fifteen minutes to disassemble.
  • I used numerous cable ties to hold everything in place during construction. While these were vital during construction, they were removed when the structure was finished.
  • No material was cut - or significantly damaged - during the making of this model.
  • The sphere rolls well - I rolled it several hundred yards while taking these photos.
