Interesting 1-D cellular automata rules?

I'm looking for some good rules for 1-D cellular automata.

I remember (fragmented memories) exploring one set of rules I found
in Byte magazine in which I even found a glider!

It required that the current cell be able to see four cells--two to its
right and two to its left....
